We Love Our Fro's: About Us

We Love Our Fro's!
here's why.....

Well there isn't some grand story behind it. It really serves a simple purpose:
I hail from Namibia and some contributors from South Africa. ( see Southern Africa)

Me: A few years ago I ventured on this natural hair journey, and boy was it tough. Our harsh weather conditions ( Namibia is very arid and dry), finding the right products, salons that have no clue about natural hair and how to care for it; and don't even get me started on the general stigma or extreme curiosity to the point where people are sticking their fingers in your hair *insert 'not cool' meme*

So fast forward to now and I get inundated with messages and questions on my hair, how I care for it and how a budding natural can take this frightful and rewarding journey within these tough conditions/parameters. I decided that although my strength might not be being a "blogger" that i would centralize what I know, what I can find and what I've done with my hair.

I didn't want the pressure of doing it all by myself because where I am now and all the information I'm armed with, was handed to me ever so graciously by a few very awesome natural hair veterans. These wondrous women whom I admired, took the time to calm my nerves and teach me a few basics. So I wanted this blog to become a community of sorts where naturals I know from various backgrounds can post about their experiences, their practices and products finds. The main thing to always remember about natural hair is that although we all broke free from the creamy crack (relaxer) we have different textures, and porosity and density and our hair has a unique identity so what works for one, might not work for the other, SO, why not have as many naturals represented on this blog as possible!

Another thing we proudly declare is that we are Lazy naturals! This means we are not the Hermoine Granger (Harry Potter) of natural hair, we are not star pupils, we know what we need to do and try and find as many shortcuts along the way to achieve the same result because WE ACTUALLY HAVE LIVES TO LIVE! hahahahahahahaha

So here you won't find puristic notions about natural hair, you won't find a one size fits all approach and you certainly won't find snobs. You 'll find awesome ladies residing in Southern Africa (hopefully some from all over Africa soon) that want to share their journey and maybe help along the way.

Oh and lastly, please comment and share whatever posts you like and find interesting!

Ok ok one more thing, you might feel your inner grammar nazi rear its ugly head because these posts are most likely written after midnight by sleep deprived hardworking women. Calm Yourself :-)
